Psyllium Seeds

Isabgol is a herbal medicinal plant cultivated in India, primarily in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The dried, mature seeds of the Isabgol plant—commonly known as Psyllium seeds or Isabgol seeds—are the principal components used in traditional and modern herbal applications.

After harvesting, the seeds are thoroughly cleaned and mechanically processed to obtain the primary commercial products, namely Psyllium husk and Psyllium husk powder. Psyllium husk is the outer mucilaginous coating of the seed and is widely used as a natural, bulk-forming laxative for the relief of constipation.

Psyllium seeds naturally contain approximately 40% linoleic acid (LA), an essential fatty acid important for overall health and nutrition. The physical and chemical specifications of Psyllium seeds are provided in the table below.
